
Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration, Telangana officials acting on intelligence on Thursday, May 16, raided Sampurna Ayurveda Nilayam, located near Madhava Reddy Flyover, Ghatkesar village, Medchal-Malkajgiri district, and detected several powders claimed to be ‘Ayurvedic medicines’ meant for the treatment of various diseases, including diabetes.
The officials collected samples of the powders and sent them to the Drugs Control Laboratory for analysis. The test report concluded the presence of allopathic drugs such as Metformin, Glimepiride, and Gliclazide in the powders, which were being claimed as Ayurvedic medicines, a press release informed.
During the raids, they seized 52 packets, each weighing 100 grams and labelled as ‘Sugar,’ containing a light green-coloured powder. This powder was tested and found to contain the allopathic anti-diabetic drugs Metformin (31.65%), Glimepiride (4.92%), and Gliclazide (3.02%).
“The partners of the firm, Mohammad Rafi Shaik and Nallabothu Venkateswarlu are manufacturing and selling powders claimed to be ‘Ayurvedic medicines,’ illegally mixing allopathic anti-diabetic drugs, at Sampurna Ayurveda Nilayam in Ghatkesar village, Medchal-Malkajgiri district,” said V B Kamalasan Reddy, DG DCA.
“The mixing of allopathic drugs in Ayurvedic powders and selling them falsely under the claim of being ‘Ayurvedic medicines’ is a serious offence under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. It is punishable with imprisonment,” said DCA officials.
Further investigation will be conducted, and appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law against all offenders involved, the press release further said.
