US President Donald Trump warned Iran on Sunday, May 17, that time was running out for its leadership to act amid escalating tensions in the region.

“For Iran, the Clock is Ticking, and they better get moving, FAST, or there won’t be anything left of them. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

Israeli strikes in south Lebanon kill five

Lebanon’s health ministry said on Sunday that fresh Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon killed five people, including two children, despite an ongoing ceasefire.

The ministry said three people, including a child, were killed in the town of Tayr Felsay, while two others, including another child, were killed in Tayr Debba.

According to the ministry’s preliminary toll, 11 people were also wounded in the strikes.

Trump holds Iran talks with security team

US President Donald Trump met members of his national security team on Saturday to discuss Iran, according to a report by Axios.

Pakistan hopes to conclude US-Iran negotiations

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Sunday that he hopes to “conclude negotiations” between the US and Iran, according to Al Jazeera.

The remarks came during a meeting in Tehran between Iran’s chief negotiator and parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Naqvi, where the two discussed the deadlock in peace talks between Washington and Tehran.

Al Jazeera reported that discussions focused on stalled negotiations and efforts to ease regional tensions amid the ongoing conflict.

UAE adviser says Barakah drone attack marks ‘dangerous escalation’

UAE presidential adviser Anwar Gargash condemned the drone attack near the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, calling it a “dangerous escalation”.

In a post on X, Gargash said the targeting of the Barakah nuclear facility violated international laws and norms and endangered civilian lives in the UAE and surrounding areas.

“The terrorist targeting of the Barakah clean nuclear power plant … represents a dangerous escalation,” he wrote, adding that the incident reflected growing regional challenges linked to “chaos and sabotage”.

Iran says it will block ‘enemy’ military equipment in Strait of Hormuz

Iran said it will no longer allow “enemy” military equipment to transit through the Strait of Hormuz, according to First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref.

Speaking as reported by Al Jazeera, Aref said Iran had previously allowed military equipment intended for use against the country to pass through the strategic waterway.

“We will not permit that again,” he said.

UAE condemns drone attack near Barakah Nuclear Power Plant

The UAE condemned what it described as a “treacherous terrorist attack” targeting an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra region.

Authorities said the attack was carried out using a drone that entered the country from the western border.

The UAE said the incident represented a serious threat to security and strategic infrastructure, while investigations into the source of the drone remain ongoing.

Drone strike targets UAE’s Barakah nuclear plant area

The UAE’s Ministry of Defence said on Sunday, May 17, that air defence systems intercepted drones that entered the country from the western border.

In a post on X, the ministry said three drones were detected in UAE airspace. Two were intercepted, while the third struck an external electricity generator near the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Al Dhafra.

Abu Dhabi authorities said the strike caused a fire outside the facility’s inner perimeter. Emergency teams responded to the incident and brought gʻgʻ situation under control.

Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported and that radiological safety levels at the nuclear plant remained unaffected. Investigations are underway to determine the source of the drones.
