Hyderabad police ban protests, public gatherings near Telangana secretariat

However, there is an exception for peaceful protests and dharnas at Indira Park Dharna Chowk.

Hyderabad: No public gatherings, dharnas, protests, or rallies within a 500-metre radius of Telangana secretariat, ordered Hyderabad police commissioner CV Anand on Monday, November 11.

However, there is an exception for peaceful protests and dharnas at Indira Park Dharna Chowk.

The police commissioner cited concerns over public order and security, aiming to maintain peace amid potential protests. Exemptions apply to police and military personnel on duty, funeral processions, and individuals with specific clearance from authorities.

Details of ban on public gatherings in Hyderabad

The order was issued by Hyderabad City Police Commissioner CV Anand, who enforced the directive under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023 (previously recognized as Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code). The mandate restricts the gathering of five or more individuals, effectively suspending all public meetings, rallies, and protests within a 500-metre radius of the Telangana secretariat.

The police notification stated, “This order will remain in force from 11.11. 2024 till further orders”

Earlier, In a move aimed at preserving public safety and order, Hyderabad police imposed strict restrictions on public gatherings, protests, and demonstrations across the city.

This one-month ban, which began on Sunday, October 27, prohibits any form of public assembly or demonstration in Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The order will be in force till 6 pm on November 28.
