Hyderabad: Hyderabad police arrested 29-year-old Kilaru Kirti Teja on Saturday, February 8 for allegedly murdering his grandfather, industrialist Velamati Chandrasekhara (VC) Janardhan Rao, over a property dispute.
The incident occurred at the victim’s residence in Somajiguda on February 6.
According to reports, Janardhan Rao had been residing in Hyderabad’s Somajiguda for years, he had recently appointed his eldest daughter’s son, Srikrishna, as director of Veljan Group and transferred property worth Rs 4 crore to Kirti Teja, son of his daughter Sarojini Devi.
The accused who recently returned to Hyderabad after finishing his master’s in USA was reportedly unhappy with the property distribution. As the dispute escalated, Teja allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim 73 times. Sarojini Devi, who had stepped away to bring tea, rushed back upon hearing the commotion and tried to intervene but was also attacked, sustaining four stab wounds.
The accused fled the scene before other family members arrived. They found the victim dead, while Sarojini Devi was rushed to a private hospital and is undergoing treatment.
Police registered a case and launched an investigation. They initially suspected that the accused may have a history of drug use.
